Britpave: The British In-Situ Concrete Paving Association

Great Yarmouth Outer Harbour

Place: Great Yarmouth Outer Harbour

Job: Earthworks and Stabilisation Scheme

Client: Carillion

Duration: 12 weeks commencing September 2009

Value: £500,000

Scope:
McArdle were awarded the second earthworks package for the new Great Yarmouth Outer Harbour scheme in Norfolk that would enable deep water shipping to regenerate the area.

Following the dock construction, McArdle began by cutting over 20,000m3 of the dredged sands to level, then backfilling 21, 000m3 of Norwegian type 1 granite in five layers to +-12mm tolerances, with a final layer of type 1 to a +-6mm tolerance.

McArdle also cement stabilised over 17,000m2 of sand, and then covered with two layers of type 1 to the same tolerances.

The highly polished and flat finish of the type 1 would enable a block paving contractor to lay a consistent layer of sand on which to construct the interlinked block paving over the entire area.
